This year marks the 160th anniversary of the establishment of bilateral relations between Switzerland and Japan. On this occasion, the Ambassador of Switzerland to Japan, Dr. Andreas Baum, is hosting a lecture on May 29, 2024 on the history of the bilateral relations between Switzerland and Japan, by Pierre-Yves Donzé, Professor of Economic History at Osaka University followed by a buffet reception.

The lecture is entitled « When mountains unite across borders: a cultural and business history of Swiss-Japanese relations.“  This conference offers a new and original look at the historical development of relations between Switzerland and Japan since 1864. With the mountains as a starting point, Prof. Donzé will present his research on how a shared love of mountaineering has been the foundation for the development in bilateral relations in tourism, commerce and even culture.
