Lecture on the history of the bilateral relations between Switzerland and...

This year marks the 160th anniversary of the establishment of bilateral relations between Switzerland and Japan. On this occasion, the Ambassador of Switzerland to Japan, Dr. Andreas Baum, is hosting a lecture on May 29, 2024 on the history of the bilateral relations between Switzerland and Japan, by Pierre-Yves Donzé, Professor of Economic History at Osaka University followed by a buffet reception.

The lecture is entitled "When mountains unite across borders: a cultural and business history of Swiss-Japanese relations.“  This conference offers a new and original look at the historical development of relations between Switzerland and Japan since 1864. With the mountains as a starting point, Prof. Donzé will present his research on how a shared love of mountaineering has been the foundation for the development in bilateral relations in tourism, commerce and even culture.
