Stewarding impact. Shaping the next decade.

As it approaches its 10-year anniversary, the Magic Libraries Foundation seeks an Executive Director to guide the Foundation into its next phase of development and sustainability.

Founded in 2016 and based in Geneva, Magic Libraries is a Swiss foundation dedicated to promoting reading among children and young adults, and to supporting the training of young translators — primarily in Asia. Through carefully selected local partnerships in 17 countries, the Foundation has enabled thousands of children to strengthen their literacy skills and access the transformative power ofbooks.

After a successful first decade built on strong field engagement, the Foundation is entering a new chapter — focused on consolidation, visibility and long-term financial sustainability. The Board now seeks a leader capable of shaping Magic Libraries2.0.

THE MANDATE

This is a strategic role within a lean structure composed of the Executive Director and one assistant. The successful candidate will lead the development of the organization’s reach and impact, strengthen and consolidate its partnerships and financial foundations, represent it externally with authority and credibility, and ensure the long-term sustainability of its mission.

The Executive Director will:

  • Define and articulate the Foundation’s next strategic cycle
  • Ensure effective operational delivery and monitor measurable impact
  • Develop and implement a diversified fundraising strategy
  • Cultivate relationships with individual philanthropists, foundations and selected institutional partners
  • Position the Foundation within Geneva’s philanthropic and international ecosystem
  • Ensure sound governance, financial oversight and accountability.

Oversee communications and strengthen the Foundation’s visibility while maintaining a thoughtful,values-aligned public presence. The role offers significant autonomy, direct access to the Board, and real influence over the Foundation’s trajectory.

YOUR PROFILE

  • Alignment with Mission: A genuine commitment to literacy, education and access to knowledge as levers for empowerment.
  • Strategic & Entrepreneurial Mindset: Comfortable operating in a small structure, you combine vision with pragmatism. You enjoy building, structuring and strengthening organizations entering a new phase while ensuring effective operational delivery and a clear focus on measurable impact.
  • Proven Fundraising & Partnership Development Experience: Demonstrated ability to secure funding and cultivate long-term donor relationships. Experience engaging private philanthropists and foundations is particularly valued.
  • Ambassadorial Presence: You represent causes with credibility and tact. You build trust naturally and navigate diverse cultural and institutional environments with ease.
  • Governance & Financial Acumen: You are comfortable working closely with a Board, preparing budgets, ensuring compliance and overseeing reporting processes.
  • Languages: Full professional fluency in English and French (mandatory).
