This article examines how Starlink, developed by SpaceX, constitutes a disruptive innovation in the telecommunications sector due to its ability to address infrastructural deficiencies, particularly in Africa, where it offers connectivity in areas poorly served by traditional networks. However, a tension arises between the ideal of democratizing Internet access and the reality of its commercialization. On one hand, Starlink promotes itself through humanitarian initiatives that promise global Internet access, seen as a public good. On the other hand, it operates within a capitalist framework, with business strategies that privatize Internet access, making it unaffordable for a large portion of the global population. Our analysis shows that although Starlink contributes to digital inclusion, it paradoxically exacerbates inequalities, making Internet access a major political issue of the 21st century.
